Track and field: Jamie strikes National gold!

FOURTEEN year-old Haute Vallée pupil Jamie Stevenson, pictured, has won gold in the discus event at the National Schools Athletics Championship being held in Gateshead today.

Stevenson’s throw of 42.73 metres was a tremendous new personal best distance and is believed to provide Jersey with its first-ever national champion in this age-group.

He broke the Jersey and schools inter-insular competition discus record last week, in Guernsey, with a throw of 41.03m and threw his previous personal best of 41.82 in the recent Spartans championship.

Earlier last month he smashed the Wessex League record with a 41.71 throw.
