A 68-YEAR-OLD St Saviour man had a very expensive fishing trip yesterday.
His car rolled over the cliff edge at Sorel Point, fell several hundred feet and stopped yards from the sea.
The damage was described as ’severe’.
A police spokesman said that it was believed that the vehicle handbrake had not been adequately secured and it rolled backwards over the cliff.
The man had parked his red Ford Puma in the car park before heading down to fish on the rocks below.
The alarm was raised at about 10.40 am with a call to the police.
Several police units as well as the Jersey Fire and Rescue Service and ambulance crews were sent to the scene.
The cliff rescue team of the Fire and Rescue Service went down to the vehicle but it had still not been recovered late yesterday afternoon.
