Town needs a parking plan, say Chamber

CHAMBER of Commerce members are being asked to make a stand for a town parking strategy.

The chairman of Chamber’s traffic links sub-committee, David Dodge, says that over the past year traffic snarl-ups, roadworks and lack of parking have choked off trade, resulting in a serious downturn for businesses.

‘I’m not knocking the urban renewal programme,’ said Mr Dodge, who runs the Vienna Bakery and also represents the Market Traders Association.

‘I don’t have a problem with improving the environment.

But we need parking around the core of the town so that we don’t frighten away the customers.
