WATER bombs were thrown from Minden Place car park at a visiting dignitary during the official opening of the Salvation Army’s newly renovated headquarters on Saturday afternoon.
The chief of staff of the Salvation Army worldwide, Commissioner Israel Gaither, was speaking at the reopening and dedication service of the refurbished buildings when three water bombs were hurled from the car park.
They hit the ground near his feet and he and others were splashed as a result.
However, the Commissioner continued unperturbed.
Jersey’s Bailiff Sir Philip Bailhache apologised on behalf of the people of the Island ‘for the disgraceful behaviour of a small minority’ who did not reflect the feeling of Islanders towards the Salvation Army.
