WITH just three games to play the Natwest Evening League Division Two is all to play for.
Last night St Helier RFC took top spot off St John after beating them by seven wickets.
It means both teams are tied in first position on 30 points each.
And Jersey Academicals are within one victory of the top after they beat the Hautlians by ten wickets.
In a high scoring match at FB Fields last night, St John took a solid lead after Rob English notched 58 runs.
But St Helier RFC came out strong and pegged them back with just four balls to spare in a nail-biting finish.
Richard Gomersall produced 41 not out for the rugby men.
Captain Mick Poulter said: ‘We had a meeting after our defeat in the cup final and decided that we had to put everything in to win the league.
‘Last night we did just that, but after Rob scored 58 runs for St John I thought we were going to have a very difficult time to make up the score - it ended up being the biggest total we have had to chase this season.
‘But we did it, and with Richard putting in a solid performance, we were able to peg them back with just four balls to spare.
All of our batsmen were really good last night.
‘I am hopeful for the season but any team in our league is capable of beating any of the other teams in the league so there are no easy matches left,’ added Poulter.
Helped by a 69no from Chris Jones and a 37no from Paul Dicker, Jersey Academicals beat the Hautlians by ten wickets to remain in third place, one victory behind the two leaders.
Bottom of the league Securicor earned their second victory of the season after beating United Banks by three wickets.
