JERSEY’S heritage has been given top marks by a group of eminent British archaeologists.
On their first-ever visit to the Island, the Royal Institute of Archaeologists say they are ‘knocked out’ by the quality, variety and history of not just the ancient sites but also the Napoleonic and Occupation defences.
Tim Shadla-Hall of University College London said that Jersey has some of the finest archaeology in the British Isles.
‘We are absolutely knocked out by the quality of conservation and the sheer number of archaeological sites and monuments, which we can’t believe can exist in such a small space.’
