Senator is critical of ‘comical’ register

THE current register of politicians’ financial interests is ‘comically inadequate’ according to Senator Stuart Syvret.

He is working on proposals to make it more stringent because he is convinced that his colleagues do not always paint the full picture of their business dealings.

He wants them to be forced to declare all interests, including any property they own.

‘Frankly over the years I have been of the opinion that the register which is held for public viewing in the States Greffe bookshop has been unsatisfactory.

The present register requires the declaration of any property from which a Member derives an income and I think that has been utterly ignored,’ he claimed.
