Emergency plan to tackle town gridlock

EMERGENCY measures are being considered to unblock the daily gridlock in town.

Traders are complaining that business is being hit by the traffic jams caused by the lengthy closure of Union Street for sewer work.

To alleviate it the St Helier roads committee is to consider reversing the traffic flow in Cattle Street to give motorists a quicker route out of town The Constable of St Helier, Simon Crowcroft, says he is receiving daily letters and phone calls about the problem and has also been swayed by the comments of Metro Gnome - columnist for the JEP’s sister paper Jersey Metro - who this week called for the authorities to show flexibility by putting Halkett Place back to how it was.
