THE latest round of the National Hill Climb Championship came to Jersey yesterday.
Following a wet start at Bouley Bay, which worried some competitors, the conditions dried out which enabled a number of personal best and record times to be set.
The fastest driver of the day was championship leader Adam Fleetwood, with a time of 38.72 sec - just 0.07 secs outside the hill record.
In round 19 of the Championship, Fleetwood secured first place with a time of 39.40.
Willem Toet was second with 39.75 closely followed by Martin Groves with 39.82.
Round 20 saw Groves take the honours with a time of 38.95, with Toet in second with 39.00 and Fleetwood, third with 39.40 Guernsey’s Colin Le Maistre had a good day, securing third place overall in the Championship with a fourth place in Round 19, only to hit the granite wall at Café Corner in Round 20.
Mike Dean, also from Guernsey, finishing fifth overall including seventh and sixth in round 19 and 20.
Simon Le Rougetel in the Historic Car class set a new record of 49.75.
Andy Bougourd in the Sport Libre class set a new record of 42.75 while Richard Twinham set a personal best in the Racing Car 601-1100cc class of 43.49.
Jersey’s Bruce Dingle, in the motorcycle 351-500 cc class, secured first place over fellow Islander Oliver Holmes in a closely fought battle, with a fastest time of 45.03.
The National Hill Climb Championship moves to Val des Terres in Guernsey tomorrow.
