AN AVERAGE of more than one driver a day has been charged with drink-driving since the launch of the police’s summer crackdown two weeks ago.
July is now the worst month for drink-driving with 21 people failing breath tests since 5 July.
Of those caught, all but one was male and the average age was 30.
On average, the offenders were twice the legal limit.
P insp Nigel Truscott, who is spearheading the campaign, said that of the 21, six were arrested as a result of accidents, five at road checks, six because of the way they were driving and four for other reasons, such as one who stopped to urinate at the side of the road.
