Construction industry presents united front

JERSEY’S construction industry has bonded for the first time.

Its first single association - called the Jersey Construction Council - was formally launched last night and the body is now actively recruiting members.

The council has been on the drawing board since 2002, when the then Industries Committee called on the profession to form a representative group to raise the quality, standards and skills within the sector.

Two years later the foundations have been laid and an interim board and constitution created.

Already boasting more than 40 members, the council yesterday took the opportunity to call on the smaller members of the industry, including sole traders, to consider joining.
