Sport from the Jersey Evening Post

Le Cheminant so close to Bisley title

ANDREW LE CHEMINANT scored a magnificent 50.5 (ex.50.10) in the 1,000-yard Corporation competition at the Imperial Bisley meeting.

The Corporation is infamous for the low scores which many top shooters post in it every year, but Le Cheminant finished third - missing out on a tie shoot for first place by just one central ‘V’ bull.

Le Cheminant defied the tradition with the only possible recorded at the distance by a Jersey sharpeshooter all day.

He now lies 28th in the Grand Aggregate, which concludes tomorrow, after dropping five points in the first stage of the Queen’s Prize, four of which were at 600 yards.

No Jersey marksman managed a perfect 105 ex.

105, but Bruce Horwood and Chris Cotillard both scored 104.16 and 104.11 respectively.

However, nine Jersey shots go through to the second stage.

Another solid performance from Horwood over the course of the day saw him move up the Grand Aggregate to 53rd, with only one shoot remaining tomorrow, with him finishing in 26th place in the daily aggregate.

Horwood is followed by Ian Jones and Alex Langley, both having enjoyed excellent meetings, dropping only a small number of points at various distances.

Victoria College student Tom Millar narrowly missed out on a prize of £150, awarded to the lowest score recorded in the 1,000-yard competition without a miss, by unfortunately failing to hit the target on his final shot to count.

In the Donaldson Memorial Final, shot at 1,000 yards, Bruce Horwood was the top Jersey shot, finishing sixth with a superb 73.9 ex.

75.15.

Horwood was followed by Chris Cotillard, Alex Langley and Cliff Mallett, who all scored 69s.

A Jersey team of 12 will shoot the Overseas match tomorrow afternoon against South Africa, Continental Europe, America, Kenya and Guernsey.

Victoria College student Daniel Richardson will shoot for the Great Britain U19 team in both the A G Bell match, the most prestigious of under 19 matches, and the Inter Services Long Range match, meaning he will have shot for the GB U19 team in all three matches.

Richardson is the highest placed VC student in the Grand Aggregate, in 235th place.

Michael Bateman was unfortunate to miss out on the A G Bell team after being short-listed for his performance over the week.
