JERSEY’S men’s and women’s bowlers are in action on the World and International stages this weekend.
The men are competing at the World Championships, in Ayr, Scotland, while Jersey’s women’s World Championship team are hosting Ireland in an international Test match this weekend.
Men’s team manager Cyril Renouf said: ‘Competition starts on Saturday after three days of practice.
The greens are a bit on the slow side because there has been a lot of rain recently, but by the weekend I expect them to quicken up.’ Alan Quémard will play in the singles, Quémard and Derek Boswell in the pairs, Alan Shaw, Lee Nixon and David Le Marquand in the triples and Shaw, Boswell, Nixon and Le Marquand in the fours.
Renouf added: ‘I’m confident we will do well.
The top 24 countries in the world are here and our aim is to finish in the top 16 to qualify for the next championships in four years’ time.’ Meanwhile, Jersey’s women’s team oppose Ireland in a Test match on Saturday and Sunday.
The match has been arranged as part of Jersey’s preparations for the World Championships at Royal Leamington Spar between 3 and 17 September.
Pairs and triples matches start at 10 am both days while singles and fours matches commence at 2 pm.
Les Creux are hosts on Saturday while Sunday’s play is at the Jersey Bowling Club at Westmount.
Woman’s manager Sue Silcox said: ‘We had some wonderful support at the International event at Les Creux last month and I hope it can be repeated again this weekend.
‘It is a Test match we are playing so the standard will again be high.
It promises to be an exciting two days and hopefully our team can come up with a victory.’ Jersey are being represented by: Alison Camacho (singles); Karina Bisson and Gean O’Neil (pairs); Suzie Dingle, Camacho and Chris Grimes (triples) and Dingle, Bisson, O’Neil and Grimes (fours).
