Home Affairs to review police decision to scrap motorcycles

THE decision to scrap police motorbikes could be reversed by angry politicians.

Home Affairs will meet on Friday to review a decision taken by police officers to scrap the motorbike team and replace it with a unit that will target persistent offenders in an attempt to cut increasing crime rates.

Home Affairs president Senator Wendy Kinnard said today that the committee would review the decision and examine the issues with senior police officers at the meeting.

She said that a Home Affairs meeting scheduled for last week had been postponed because of the three-day sitting of the States.
