Shortage of water a myth, panel told

JERSEY has no water shortage, a States shadow scrutiny panel was told yesterday by two men who have spent their lives finding streams deep below the ground.

Water diviner George Langlois and well driller Lewis de la Haye told the panel that for years their views had been ignored by officials of the Environment and Public Services department.

They told the panel, chaired by Senator Jean Le Maistre, that the official position was that there were no water sources deeper than 75 feet below the surface.

However, they said that they dug boreholes hundreds of feet below ground and tapped into underground streams in locations all around the Island.

And they said that boreholes dug many years ago were still providing clean water from the underground streams.
