FORMER Muratti footballer Charlie Smith has been suspended indefinitely - and is facing a sine die ban with no review to be considered under a period of five years.
Smith has been charged by the Jersey Football Association with assault causing bodily harm on referee Andy Cox.
The player has up to 9 August to answer the charge.
The JFA have suspended Smith indefinitely because of the serious nature of the case.
Under FA guidelines the midfielder is likely to be fined £200 if the case is proven.
Smith, who is under police investigation, is alleged to have punched referee Cox in the face some 15 minutes after the official sent him off in St Paul’s FC’s 2-1 defeat by AFC Bournemouth U19s at the IJ Bathe Field in St Saviour last Thursday.
Smith’s action resulted in St Paul’s withdrawing his registration - just two days after he signed for them.
Cox red carded Smith after the player was alleged to have poked his finger into the official’s face.
