AMID no fanfare and just a hint of embarrassment, the town cycle network was officially launched this morning.
Five members of the St Helier roads committee took to two wheels to demonstrate the route which has caused so much confusion in recent days since large green signs appeared as if from nowhere on the town streets.
It was left to committee member and fervent cyclist Geraint Jennings to explain the thinking behind the scheme, which has been funded by the Tourism Development Fund.
He said the stuttering start to it had been partly caused by the resignation of the Environment and Public Cervices Committee earlier this year which had delayed the enacting of the necessary law changes.
It had been hoped it could be launched two months ago.
