Video violence: It’s up to parents, say shops

PARENTS need to ensure that their children do not play violent video games with an 18 rating, Island retailers said today following the linking of the game Manhunt with the murder of a teenager.

None of the local stores selling the game has withdrawn it from sale, but all urged a more responsible attitude towards such adult entertainment.

Manhunt hit the headlines yesterday after it was revealed that the mother of 14-year-old Stefan Pakeerah had expressed the view that it was responsible for his death.

He was murdered by 17-year-old Warren Leblanc, who was said to have been obsessed by the ultra-violent game.

The aim of Manhunt is to roam around a city slaughtering as many people as possible.

It is possible to suffocate victims by pulling plastic bags over their heads and kill them with guns and crowbars.
