Football:A Coca-Cola Combination?

COCA-COLA could sponsor the Jersey Football Combination this coming season.

Talks have taken place between representatives of the world famous soft drinks company and Combination president Tim Darwin and Jersey’s 19 club delegates last night agreed unanimously for their leader to proceed with those discussions with the sponsors for the forthcoming season and possibly beyond.

Darwin said: ‘A positive offer has been tabled and now with the support of the clubs I will speak to Coca-Cola representatives again early next week.

‘There are several issues to be finalised but this is very exciting for the Combination to be linked with such an important global brand.

‘Jersey football through the Combination has had two excellent long-term partnerships with Flybe and Rothmans dating back to our inception in 1975 and, I hope, we can make it a hat-trick of long-term sponsorships with Coca-Cola.’ Coca-Cola are this season sponsoring the English Football League.

The old Division I, just below the Premiership, has been renamed the Coca-Cola Championship with the former Divisions II and III now known as Division’s I and II respectively.

Darwin added: ‘This is an excellent opportunity to link football locally with Coca-Cola to run alongside the support nationally of the game.’ Combination delegates also gave the go-ahead last night to pursue entry into the FA National League Systems Cup.

The competition, for a League Select, starts early in 2005 with the National winners going on to play against European opposition the following season.
