News from the Jersey Evening Post

Prove me wrong or say sorry!

WATER diviner George Langlois has issued a challenge to Environment and Public Services president Senator Philip Ozouf to prove that he cannot detect water deep underground.

Earlier this week Mr Langlois and well driller Lewis de la Haye gave evidence to a States shadow scrutiny panel and argued that the Island did not have a water shortage.

They said there was no need for the proposed new Water Resources Law that Environment and Public Services claim is essential to protect and conserve Jersey’s water stocks.

The two men said that if the authorities changed their policy and extracted water from streams deep below ground, there would be plenty of water to supply all Islanders.

But Environment and Public Services believe that Jersey faces a water shortage and their experts say the Island can collect rainwater to a depth of 75 feet.

There is no official acceptance that water can be extracted from below that depth.

‘Either prove us wrong or shut up and apologise,’ said Mr Langlois.

‘The way the law is at the moment is foolish.

Either they are wrong or we are wrong.

We challenge the Senator, anywhere or any time, to prove us wrong.’
