Smith lifts Island Seniors golf crown

ISLAND team manager Terry Smith is the new Jersey Seniors golf champion.

Yesterday, at Grouville, Smith defeated fellow Royal Jersey golfer Vic Bourgoise 4 and 3.

Smith, who took the title for the first time, said: ‘I’m delighted to have won, I’ve been trying three years.

‘It was a good solid game, Vic and I had six pars apiece on the opening holes.

I went two-up when Vic dropped shots at the eighth and nine and I went three-up with a birdie at the 11th.

‘Unfortunately Vic bogeyed the 12th and there was no looking back after that.

I finished level par while Vic was three over so the scoring was good.

‘I had a similar match in the semi-finals on Thursday against La Moye’s Kevin O’Toole.

I won that 3 and 2 and again I was level par when I finished.

Kevin had a couple of bad holes in the middle and that’s where he lost it and I won it.

‘They were two steady rounds, I putted nicely and chipped well and hopefully I can do the same in the Channel Islands final in September.’
