News from the Jersey Evening Post

Capital request may be made for gallery

A CAPITAL bid could be made to fund the proposed National Art Gallery.

The Jersey Arts Trust, who are leading the project, say that a capital bid to the States is possible, but they are talking to private donors and sponsors to fund the project.

However, the official line from the Waterfront Enterprise Board is that the island site development as a whole will represent private-sector investment in excess of £40 million.

Given that next year’s capital programme has already been agreed, and given the current squeeze on States spending, a request for public funds for the gallery may not be successful.

The arts trust say that they aim to have a business plan ready in around three weeks.
