PARISH involvement will be a major part of the Jersey Heritage Trust’s planned celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Liberation next May.
The trust is to launch a parish project in September, funded by the Liberation 60 Committee, and all the parish Constables have been contacted to enlist their support.
It is envisaged that there will be a lot of personal photographs and memories in 12 parish exhibitions and a main exhibition at Elizabeth Castle, to open on 9 May 2005.
But the focus will not be on the Occupation years but rather the Liberation and reconstruction of the Island leading up to the accession of Queen Elizabeth II.
Trust director Jon Carter said: ‘The post-war period is when the character of present-day Jersey began to take shape after meeting the incredible challenges of the Occupation.’
