STATES and parish manual workers have submitted an inflation-busting pay claim of six per cent for the year ahead.
That is a full four per cent above the deal that is on the table from the employers’ side.
It is likely that the claim will be fiercely resisted by the States side.
A target of 2.5 per cent growth over two years has been set for States spending, the majority of which would be eaten up by salary costs.
The Transport and General Workers’ Union has made the claim because, it says, increases in rents combined with high inflation rates are hitting the purchasing power of its members.
