Tenpin:Leonard hits maximum

TENPIN bowler Matthew Leonard (20) has come into form at exactly the right time, scoring a maximum 300 points from 12 consecutive strikes at the weekend.

The Jersey Tenpin Bowling Association member leaves the Island on Thursday to compete in the Adult British Triple Crown Championships which are being held in Dundee over the weekend, along with his fellow Jersey team mates, and his magic 300 is certainly a confidence boost ahead of the tough competition.

Leonard is the youngest bowler in Jersey to bowl a perfect 300.

‘Matthew was bowling at St Peter, in a Young Adults Club (YAC) competition to select the players who will be going to Wales in October for the YAC Triple Crown,’ explained Dean Saunders, JTBA president and Jersey team manager in Scotland.

‘It was the first time he had got such a high score and he - and we - were delighted.

It came at the perfect time and I hope it’s a taste of what’s to come in Dundee!’ In Sunday’s competition Ryan Dransfield was in the lead with 632 after three games, with Lee Jarvis lying second with 611 and Leonard third with 574, but in the fourth game Leonard’s feat catapulted him into the lead, and he stayed ahead to the end.

Sunday’s competition: Matt Leonard 1299, Lee Jarvis 1163, Mark Russell 1129; Ryan Dransfield 1111; Fraser Smith 1068; Mike Turner 1032.
