Union’s bus fare backlash

THE bus fare proposals will create an effective curfew on pensioners, according to the head of Jersey’s biggest union.

Transport and General Workers Union official Nick Corbel said that he was shocked and appalled by the proposals from Environment and Public Services to charge pensioners the full fare for trips at peak times.

And the head of Age Concern, Daphne Minihane, said that at a meeting yesterday of around 80 members, concern had been expressed about pensioners paying full fare between 4.30 pm and 6 pm.

She said that she would ask the committee to move the 4.30 pm deadline back to 5 pm.
