Weather takes it toll on tourism

JERSEY’S tourism industry is having a tough time not helped by bad weather.

Industry experts say that fewer tourists are coming to the Island and transport operators support that view.

The Island is busy this Battle of Flowers week but the year so far has been difficult for many.

Figures for the first half of the year show an overall reduction of just over three per cent in passenger arrivals and for the first five months, a seven per cent fall in the number of leisure visitors.

Despite considerable exposure on national television in recent weeks, many industry commentators are disappointed with numbers.
