Box office horror show

TICKET sales for ‘Little Shop of Horrors’, this year’s home-grown summer musical at the Opera House, have been described as a potential disaster by the theatre’s director.

It’s just not selling,’ admitted Ian Stephens.

‘It’s looking likely that it will cost us tens of thousands of pounds.’ The budget for the show, which stars Tracy Shaw and John Altman, was £200,000.

This was £80,000 less than last year’s production ‘Grease’, which doubled its planned three-week run because of demand.

Attendance figures for ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ have varied since the show opened on Friday 29 July with a paying audience of 450.

Since then the numbers visiting the 625-seat theatre have dropped considerably, with one performance only attracting 90 people.

However, there are no plans to close the show.
