THE construction industry is supporting a States initiative to introduce guidelines on managing asbestos.
Speakers at a seminar on Tuesday - including Health and Safety Inspectorate director Colin Myers and the UK’s principal asbestos licen-sing inspector, Jim Skilling - explained the proposed approved code of practice on the management of asbestos in workplace buildings.
‘The industry is generally supportive of the new code because it is a health and safety issue and every effort to make construction more safe is welcome,’ said Martin Holmes, who sits on the boards of both the newly formed Jersey Construction Council and the Jersey Building and Allied Trades Employers Federation.
