Jersey pair bag bronze at Bisley

Twelve Jersey Smallbore shooters are currently among 985 others at the National Smallbore Rifle Championships at Bisley.

Former Commonwealth Games representatives Kevin de Gruchy and Steve Le Couilliard won bronze in the weekend aggregate, beating 31 other pairs.

In the Bank Centenary Plate, the Jersey Outdoor team finished a creditable fifth from 28 team entries.

Other results in over the weekend aggregate competitions were: Le Couilliard, 6th in Competition 8 with 393 ex 400; de Gruchy tenth in Competition 9, 391 ex 400 and 14th in Competition 10, 392 ex 400.

Bob Mallet, shooting in Class A, came 12th in Competition 10 with 388 ex 400.

The Grand Aggregate started on Monday up to yesterday afternoon.

De Gruchy and Le Couilliard were tying in 36th place, both shooting in the elite Class X, which is for the top 100 shooters in Great Britain.

In Competition 4 Le Couilliard finished equal 17th with an excellent 392 ex 400 - only two points off the winning score.

Shooting in Class B, Gordon Proctor finished 18th in Competition 4 with 388 ex 400.

The Grand Aggregate continues right up until Friday, but the county team events start today commencing the build up to the prestigious British Championships for The Earl Roberts Trophy on Friday and Saturday.

Shot concurrently with this event is the Jersey long-range championship for the White & McKay trophy.

Jersey: Class X: Kevin de Gruchy, Steve Le Couilliard.

Class A: Bob Mallet.

Class B: Brian de Gruchy, Gordon Proctor, Richard Bouchard, Mike Laurens, John Renouf and Haydn Lister.

Class C: Tony Bougeard, John Boydens and Jonathan Bouchard.
