Rescues and damage as winds hit gale force

A FRENCHMAN suffering from exhaustion and hypothermia was rescued by St Catherine’s Lifeboat from a yacht at the height of last night’s storm.

The Jersey Sea Rescue Centre was contacted shortly before 3 am today by the French Coastguard advising them that the seven-metre yacht’s engine had failed.

Overnight, winds reached gale force eight and there was a ten-ft swell.

Both St Catherine and St Helier lifeboat crews were paged and launched.
