A NEW fast-train service from Paris to St Malo promises to be a huge business opportunity for the Island.
But currently French visitors perceive Jersey as an expensive destination and there would need to be special offers to attract them, a report has concluded.
The marketing survey on the potential impact of the Paris-St Malo TGV (Train à Grande Vitesse) service was initiated by the Jersey Heritage Trust and carried out by James Arbacette, who is a work placement student from Clermont Ferrand Graduate School of Management.
The French national railway, the Société National des Chemins de Fer (SNCF), is scheduled to open the service between December 2005 and spring 2006.
It will follow the existing line between Paris and St Malo via Rennes and should take around three hours in total, depending on the number of stops.
Currently travellers have to change at Rennes.
