Boreholes to avoid charges?

WATER drawn from deep boreholes that official sources claim does not exist could be exempted from charges in future.

The Environment and Public Services Committee have been asked if they are prepared to exempt water taken from boreholes deep below the surface from proposed charges to be introduced under a new water resources law.

The question has been asked by a States scrutiny panel after the Environment and Public Services Committee gave evidence that they do not accept any water can be extracted from deeper than 25 metres below ground.

The panel say that the committee appear to discount water resources below 25 metres and ask: ‘In that case, would the committee consider a licence exemption for bores in respect of depths below 25 metres, as well as capacity that is less than three cubic metres a day?’
