Top national design award for Hautlian

A YOUNG architect from Jersey has won a top national design competition.

24-year-old former Hautlieu student Tom Bull was part of a three-man team that recently took home this year’s Corus Undergraduate Architects Award.

His team won £3,000 and will have their project published in the industry’s trade journal.

They have also earned the right to judge next year’s competition.

The main purpose of the award is to provide undergraduate architectural students with a creative vehicle for learning about the use of steel in buildings.

The theme of this year’s award was the ‘home zone’ and entrants were asked to deal with the problems posed by integrating motorised transport with the needs of the community.

Mr Bull, who is the son of Trevor and Trish Bull of Maufant, entered the competition while studying for a postgraduate diploma in energy efficient building at Oxford Brookes University, which he continued to Masters level.

He is now working as an assistant architect for a company in Cheltenham that specialises in designing casinos, cinemas, leisure centres and race courses.
