Deputy forced to withdraw insults

DEPUTY Terry Le Main was yesterday forced to withdraw insulting remarks made about his rival Senatorial candidate Deputy Geoff Southern in the States earlier in the week.

As Deputy Southern was speaking in a debate on the height of the waterfront towers on Tuesday afternoon, Deputy Le Main was heard to refer to him in an aside as ‘a bloody know-all’.

The Housing president added: ‘I can’t stand the little bastard,’ the States heard yesterday when he was taken to task for his language.

Deputy Le Main was forced to withdraw the comments by the Deputy Bailiff, Michael Birt, when yesterday afternoon’s session began.

However, when initially asked whether he had made the remarks, the Deputy said: ‘Absolutely and I stand by them.’ But the Deputy Bailiff then said the comments had to be withdrawn, which prompted the Deputy, and current Senatorial candidate, to respond: ‘If you insist, then I shall withdraw them.’
