Scooter to help Jersey’s environment

AN ozone-friendly electric scooter that does more than 60 mph and costs £5 a month to run is to be sold in Jersey.

The American-made Vectrix bike - which will be ridden on Jersey, Guernsey and UK roads before anywhere else in the world - is charged up by plugging it in to any mains socket and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than eight seconds.

Jersey businessman Peter O’Brien has been trying to convince the DVS to let him to sell the bike in the Island for the last 18 months - and he has finally been given permission to do so.

The bike, which makes no noise, will cost around £5,500, but users will save up to 90 per cent on fuel and 70 per cent on maintenance costs, as well as help to save the environment.
