FT letter defends EU tax compliance

A LETTER from Jersey’s top civil servant appears in today’s Financial Times rebutting comments published last week questioning the Island’s compliance with EU tax agreements.

The letter from Bill Ogley, chief executive of the Chief Minister’s department, states that Jersey has complied fully and honoured agreements entered into with 25 EU member states.

Chief Minister Frank Walker said Mr Ogley wrote the letter because politicians did not want to get into a debate through the columns of the FT.

He also said the amount of tax collected under the EU savings directive agreement shows there are not many private EU residents who have money in their own name in Jersey.
