JERSEY athletes returned from the 36th British Masters Track and Field Championship with seven medals.
Seasoned campaigner Carole Derrien, in the women’s 65 group, held her own despite ongoing injuries to win silver medals in the shot, hammer, weight and discus.
Catarina Hallden, in her last year in the women’s 35 age group, opened with the hammer.
Although there was a runaway winner in the group, the tussle for the minor medals kept the spectators enthralled with just 14 centimetres separating silver and bronze, the former won by Hallden.
There was a continuation of Hallden’s ongoing battle with Catriona Gentleman in the weight throw with the positions reversed and Hallden finishing with bronze.
She also claimed a second silver in the discus to complete her medal haul.
Alan Harrison had a disastrous time in the men’s 45 age group.
Having spent months rehabilitating after an achilles problem, he was forced to jog finish the 400 metres while his other leg went into spasm - all this while he was also suffering a viral condition.
Derrien and Harrison are competing in the European championships in Poland later this month.
