Outgoing president urges team manager to stay on

PETER Vincenti should stay on as Island coach, according to departing JFA president Charlie Tostevin.

Tostevin, who stepped down at last evening’s annual general meeting, says Vincenti is the best man for the job and he should not throw in the towel, despite losing in his bid to become a JFA vice president.

The retired president said: ‘For the good of the Island I hope he stays on.

‘He has a fantastic record.

I know he will be disappointed after the election result, but he is a great coach and if he goes I believe it will be be a big loss for Jersey football.’ Vincenti is the most successful Island team manager in Jersey history.

After being given the job for the second time last year he regained both the senior and under 21 Murattis.

He has been the scourge of Guernsey island teams at senior and U21 Muratti level and also has a tremendous record in the Island Games, having won gold twice, in 1993 and 1997 and bronze in 1995.

Vincenti lost out in last night’s election to St Paul’s coach Charlie Browne and Sporting Eventualities director Iain Mackenzie.

He would not comment on whether he plans to stand down as Island coach.
