JERSEY’S chances of medals at this year’s NatWest Island Games have been given a huge boost with the news that Simon Le Couilliard, pictured left, has now been included in the swimming team.
It was thought that Le Couilliard, who won seven golds in the Shetland Games in 2005, would not be in this year’s team having failed to achieve a qualifying time in a 25m pool.
However, following an appeal by the Tigers Swimming Club to the Jersey Amateur Swimming Association, it was accepted that Le Couilliard had rightfully qualified in a club championship event in January.
Jersey’s swimming team manager Neil Faudemer explained that Le Couilliard’s inclusion does not affect the participation of other squad members in any other swimming events.
He added: ‘I am delighted that Simon is able to go, he will be an enormous asset to the team.
It is also a tremendous boost for the rest of the swimmers particularly the boys and this will strengthen us considerably - now we can focus on our preparations for Rhodes.’
