Historic name for new bus station

THE new transport centre on the Esplanade will be named Liberation Station.

Transport Minister Guy de Faye has settled on a timely name for the new bus station on the former Island Site. Buses will move into the new building in September, and Deputy de Faye has chosen the name for the station from a shortlist of 25 provided by Islanders. Liberation Station beat suggestions including the Graeme Le Saux Autobus Base, the Old Slaughter Terminal, Jersey Channel Islands Public Transport Station and the Weighbridge. The old abattoir site is being redeveloped as Liberty Wharf and will include the bus station, the offices of Jersey Tourism and shops.
