‘We didn’t know what they were going to do’

AN 11-week-old baby was hurt in her pram as a gang of teenagers taunted a family as they walked through town.

Laura Turner (23) was walking with her two daughters and other family members when the group verbally assaulted them and then started throwing sweets, one of which hit baby Abi-Sunshine’s head. ‘The guys were about 13 years old and they just started giving us abuse for no reason, saying really horrible stuff,’ said Miss Turner. ‘We just ignored them and carried on walking but then they started throwing wine gums at us. We didn’t realise at the time but one of the sweets hit Abi.’ Soon after the assault, Miss Turner noticed that there was a lump and a red mark on the side of her daughter’s head. Abi, who was in her pram when the attack took place, was examined by the police doctor who found no lasting injuries. Miss Turner added that the incident was a ‘very scary’ experience for her other daughter, three-year-old Ellie-Mae. ‘She was really scared and she kept telling the boys to stop it and leave her mummy alone,’ she said. The incident started in Colomberie at around 3 pm on Tuesday. It then continued to the junction of La Motte Street before carrying on into Queen Street, where the three teenagers eventually gave up and ran off into Halkett Street.
