Time to step up for the Itex walk

ISLANDERS have until Saturday to register for the 17th Around the Island Walk.

Organised by Itex and Rotary de la Manche, this year’s walk takes place on Saturday 23 June. Organisers are hoping to beat the £106,435 raised last year and to take the the total number of walkers since 1990 to more than 10,000. Over 500 walkers have already registered for the event, which has raised more than £1 million since it started. The full route is 48.1 miles around the Island’s coast and walkers start at 3 am. This year’s sponsorship money will be donated to various local charities, including Jersey Family Nursing and Home Care, Headway and the Jersey Employment Trust. The event has an added feature this year, the Lieut-Governor’s Challenge. Lieutenant-General Andrew Ridgway has set himself a personal challenge which others can join him on, to walk around the Island in stages over the next four years in parallel with those taking part in the main walk. Itex managing director Paul Marett said the event attracts walkers from around the world.
