News from the Jersey Evening Post

Cleared for takeoff

JERSEY Airport will change forever tomorrow when new security clearance arrangements come into force.

The changes also herald the arrival of the worldwide coffee chain Starbucks to the Island. The Airport has spent more than £700,000 to move the security clearance area into the departures hall, making much more of the building ‘airside’. From 5.45 am tomorrow, only travelling passengers will be able to get to the Island Quarters food outlet and to the retail shops. Meanwhile, a new duty-free shop will open its doors to the travelling public, replacing the previous outlet. It will be next to the perfume and gift shop. In the departures hall itself, airlines have installed ’snaking queue’ systems similar to those in many UK airports such as Gatwick and Southampton.
