The British Isles Bowls Council have made the draw for the British men’s outdoor bowls championships, which will be staged at the famous Sighthill club in Edinburgh from 26 to 30 June - when young Jamie MacDonald will have a crack at two titles.
Having qualified in singles and junior singles, the Jersey teenager, whose younger sister Rachel won the British women’s junior indoor singles title in March, could become the first player to win both titles in the same season.
In the senior event, Jamie has been given a bye into the semi finals, where he will meet the winner of the quarter-final between England’s Mark Walton and Scotland’s Billy Mellors.
In the quarter-finals of the junior singles, he faces Dublin’s Richard Leonard, with a possible semi final spot against Guernsey’s Matt Le Ber.
Chummy Porrée and Frank Hambly team up in the pairs quarter-finals against England champions Greg Moon and Gary Lucas, while John Lowery, Steve Hind and Alan Quémard are already through to the triples semi-finals, where they will meet a trio from the host country.
The fours has a real Le Quesne flavour to it, with Roddy MacDonald (father of Jamie and Rachel), Kenny McNeil, Peter Le Long and Ian Hodgetts coming face to face with Guernsey quartet Geoff Savident, Phil Schofield, Paul Sergeant and Ricky Brehaut.
