TREE felling at the Dandara development at Goose Green has been halted while trees yet to be cut down are inspected for evidence of nesting birds.
The action was announced in a letter sent to States Members last night from Assistant Environment Minister Ann Pryke. It followed concern expressed by local residents and politicians over tree felling at a time of year when birds are nesting. But the tree surgeon carrying out the work, Jonathan Le Maistre, has completely rejected assertions that any birds nests have been damaged at the site by his team. ‘We are professional tree surgeons and if we come across birds’ nests we deal with them appropriately. We do not leave them strewn across fields, as some people have wrongly claimed,’ he said. Meanwhile, Dandara say vandals have been targeting the Goose Green site. Managing director Martin Clancy said staff had been in tears, as work done had been negated. Mr Clancy said that anyone going on to the site at night time risks danger to themselves, as there could be holes underground.
