Early morning drugs haul

MORE than £250,000 worth of heroin was seized in the early hours of this morning in St Martin.

Two people are in custody and have been charged with serious drugs trafficking offences. Marco Vieira (33) from Madeira and Maria Antunes (25) from Portugal have been charged with the possession and intent to supply a Class A drug and will appear in the Magistrates Court on Monday. This latest seizure brings the total potential street value of heroin seized by the Drugs Squad this year to more than half a million pounds. Detective Inspector Gary Pashley from the drugs squad said that ‘this has without doubt dismantled a major drugs trafficking syndicate who have been involved in the business of making maximum profit from this sinister trade’.
