THE St Catherine lifeboat crew had their fourth callout of the month yesterday.
They were called to the rescue of the fishing boat Bantac, with three people on board, which had been disabled by a fishing net around its propeller near the Dirouilles reef, four miles north of Rozel. Within 12 minutes of being paged, the crew were at sea, and 15 minutes later they were alongside Bantac and putting a towrope aboard in difficult conditions. The fishing boat was towed back into Rozel Harbour and secured to its mooring. A crew spokesman said: ‘This has been a busy month for the St Catherine lifeboat, with four callouts already. In each case the lifeboat has been called before a serious situation had a chance to develop. ‘The crew would rather be called at an early stage than wait for the situation to worsen.’
