Business told to go greener

JERSEY’S business community needs to play a part in tackling climate change and addressing environmental issues, according to Environment Minister Freddie Cohen.

In a speech to a seminar today on ‘Companies and Conservation’ at the Durrell wildlife park, Senator Cohen has told firms that they, as well as individual Islanders and the States, need to take the environment seriously. And he praised the sponsors of the seminar, Standard Chartered, as an example of a multi-national company that were committed to high environmental standards. ‘As a finance centre we need to respond to the expectations of the high quality business operating in the Island,’ he said. ‘I am certain that in the very near future such businesses will test not just our financial credentials when they base new business in the Island but that they will have increasing regard to our environmental credentials.’
