THE Island’s 12 Constables showed their support for ridding the Island of prejudice by signing up to the Community Relations Trust’s anti-discrimination promise.
Framed copies of the promises were handed to the Constables at a presentation at St Ouen’s Parish Hall earlier this week. CRT trustee Lorna Pestana said that around 40 businesses and other bodies, including the Guiton Group, Jersey Dairy, the States, Deutsche Bank and Equity Trust had already signed up. She explained that 16 per cent of the Island’s working population were employed in workplaces that had signed up. ‘Showing support for anti-discrimination is an important issue in Jersey because of the absence of formal anti-discrimination legislation,’ Mrs Pestana said. ‘It is something that should be happening throughout all of Jersey, not just in businesses, but in every sector.’
